*** 第13日目: 形容詞・副詞 3 ***



ポイント1: 

主語+ are many, ( + are few , + is much , + is little ) の表現は日常英語では使いません。 
日常英語では There are a lot of ( lots of , many ) + 複数名詞 
       There are very few ( not many ) + 複数名詞 
       There is a lot of ( lots of ) + 数えられない名詞
       There is very little ( not much ) + 数えられない名詞 

There are lots of foregners in Tokyo. 
There are very few foreigners in my hometown. 
There was very little food during the war. 



ポイント2: 

「ほとんどの〜」と言う場合、the, this, that, these, those, 代名詞、所有形容詞、
( my, your, his 等 ) 固有名詞、の前では [ most of ] が使われます。
しかし、これら( the, this, that... )がない時は of なしで [ most ] だけを使います。 

Most students are not rich. 
Most Japanese are afraid of earthquakes. 
Most of my friends are women. 
Most of the people I met in China were very kind. 
I've read most of Mishima's novels. 

[ almost ] は副詞で、名詞の前では「ほとんどの〜」という意味では使えません。
I almost died. 
It's almost five o'clock. 

[ almost all ] は99%、 [ most (of)] は50%以上を表しています。 
Almost all Japanese people are afraid of earthquakes. 



ポイント3: 

次のような極端な性質を表す形容詞の前には普通 [ very ] を付けません。

[ terrible ] [ aweful ] [ wonderful ] [ exellent ] [ marvellous ] [ enormous ] [ huge ] [ massive ] 
[ tiny ] [ exhausted ] [ astonished ] [ amazed ] [ delighted ] [ miserable ] [ gorgeous ] [ extraordinary ]    

しかし、[ really ] や [ absolutely ] は付ける事が出来ます。

The food was really terrible. 
The weather was wounderful.
They live in an enormous house. 



ポイント4: 

[ How are you ? ] と聞かれた時や、健康について聞かれた時は、
very fine, でなく [ Fine ] や [ Very well ] と言います。

" Hello, how are you ? "   " Fine, thanks. "  



ポイント5: 

[ fun ] を強めるのに very という副詞は使えません。
[ good ] [ great ] [ a lot of ] などを使います。

The party was good fun. 
The party was a lot of fun.
